Gut Reactions to the film

Some images may be disturbing to students and some concepts/opinions could spark fierce debate. For these reasons, it may be helpful to establish ground rules for constructive discussion, including ways to respectfully disagree.

  • How has this movie made you feel overall?
  • Was there something in the film you found particularly uplifting? Disturbing?
  • How did you react to the graphic war images?
  • Why do you suppose graphic images were included in the film?
  • Were there parts of the film that made you angry? Can you think of ways to help change the things that made you feel angry?
  • How do you cope with your feelings of grief, sadness or anger?
  • Considering there are both Iraqi and American deaths virtually daily, why have we not seen more of these war images in the mainstream media?
  • Why did the military not want the press to publish photos of flag-draped coffins being shipped home?
